RSVP for "Up Close & Personal: On the Front Lines of Gun Violence"
Join Women's Voices at The Heights (8001 Dale Ave., 63117) on December 12, 2019.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; event begins at 7 p.m.

Stu Durando, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter, spent five years researching and interviewing for his book Under the Gun: A Children's Hospital on the Front Line of an American Crisis. In the book, published this year, he documents the plague of gun injuries handled by caregivers at St. Louis Children's Hospital, which sees more gunshot victims than any other children’s hospital in the country. He and Martin Keller, MD, associate professor of surgery and medical director of trauma at the hospital, will speak about their experiences and perspectives on the gun violence public health crisis.

Kateri Chapman-Kramer, MSW, LCSW, is project coordinator for Washington University’s St. Louis Area Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program, also known as Life Outside of Violence (LOV). She will describe how LOV works to end the cycle of violence by helping victims to find alternatives. She will describe her personal experience with those harmed by stabbing, gunshot, or assault, helping them receive treatment, support, and resources to decrease incidences of retaliation, criminal involvement, re-injury, and death.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from speakers sharing their firsthand insights. Please join us on December 12 to understand how and why gun violence is affecting the St. Louis region and innovative efforts to change conditions at the root of violence.

As we remember the 26 victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School on the 7th anniversary of the shootings in Newtown, CT we will recognize the children we have lost in the St. Louis area in 2019. Posters and brief biographies of the children will be shown.

Reservations are not required but help us plan. Let us know you're coming here.
