Please join the Community Safety Diversity Working Group in welcoming the return of Sakina Ibrahim's "Dancing the Diaspora!"

What: Dancing the Diaspora

Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in! Open to all ages!

Dancing the Diaspora is a movement workshop that allows us to engage with traditional and cultural movement practices such as West African dance, Latin dance and Social  dance. We are building community using movement, music and culture. There will be a special emphasis on the Civil Rights Movement in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King.

About Sakina Ibrahim, Author. Speaker. Creative. Educator:
   
Sakina Ibrahim is an NAACP Image Award-nominated Author, Speaker, and Creative. She has been featured in publications such as Aspire TV and Black Enterprise Magazine and been a featured author at Essence Fest. Sakina is a passionate woman whose brand focus is creativity, education, and inspiration. She has been a speaker and facilitator at Drexel University, George Washington University (Black Girl Health Expo), University of California Irvine, the Boston Women's Conference, Michigan State University, the Trayvon Martin Foundation, and many more organizations and institutions.

Her work is focused on centering the voices and experiences of marginalized communities and uplifting the value of self-care and self-development. Sakina holds a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine and a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts. She is a former faculty member at California State University, Long Beach City College, and Saddleback College in Southern California. Her inspiring books include Big Words to Little Me: Advice to the younger self, A Hustler's Planner, and Daily Moves: Affirmations for the Millennials which are used by schools, organizations, and individuals internationally. Her work as a social entrepreneur reaches youth, women, and LGBTQ communities advocating for self-empowerment, community building, and hope.
