INFORMATION ABOUT THE TRYOUT PROCESS

*PLEASE NOTE* The coaching staff may need to extend or modify the below process for a variety of reasons and will do our best to communicate any changes to the process.

ABOUT TRYOUTS

Fairmount SA holds tryouts each year in the spring for next fall's teams. Tryouts are conducted by the Fairmount SA Travel Program (U8-U12; 2016-2012 Birthdate).

Typically, when a player is offered a place on a team, they will be with that team for the entire soccer year (August 2023-June 2024). This is provided that they play each season (Fall/Winter/Spring). However, if a player excels and would benefit from moving up a team, or if a player is finding it difficult and would benefit from moving down a team, we reserve the right to make those changes within a soccer year.

New players will always be evaluated and may be added to a roster mid-season if the Head Coach and Director of Coaching think it's in the best interest of the player and team. If a roster is full, or if a player is close to the required level of play, we may add ‘developmental/practice’ players who train with the team and do not participate in league games.

TRYOUT PREPARATIONS

All tryouts will start on time, regardless of the amount of players checked in. Parents should plan to arrive at tryouts no later than 15 minutes prior to the tryout start time. When arriving, all players should report to the check-in table. There, they will be checked in and added to the evaluation list. Each player will be assigned a color pinnie with a number on it. This will be their pinnie to wear for tryouts. All players should return the pinnie to the check-in table after their tryout session. The pinnie will be given back to the player when they check in for the second tryout.

Players should be dressed appropriately for tryouts and the weather. Players should have cleats & shin guards. Players should be wearing socks over the shin guards. Players should bring water and any necessary equipment to the field with them (soccer bag, asthma inhaler, etc.). Players do not need to bring a ball with them.

The Fairmount SA tryout process is semi-closed. This means no parents should be standing around the field where tryouts are taking place. They should also not be instructing or communicating with players. If a player has a medical condition (like asthma) please note that on their application. If your player sustains an injury, a coach or evaluator will bring him/her to you. Young players can put a lot of pressure on themselves knowing it’s a tryout. We want to make sure they are as relaxed as possible and can just worry about playing without looking over their shoulder. Parents are welcome to stay at Edgely during the process. However, they should not be interacting or hovering around any fields where tryouts are occurring.

POST TRYOUT

At the conclusion of the final tryout date, evaluators & coaches will meet to create the final rosters for each team. Within one week (7 days)  of the final tryout date, all players will be notified of their status via an email to the contact email(s) you listed during registration. If your player is offered a spot on a team, you have 48 hours to register your player via gotsport or email declining the spot. If we do not receive a response, that will be taken as a decline and we will move onto the next player on the list. Instructions on how to register and  order a uniform will be included in the email of acceptance.

I’M ON A TEAM, WHAT NOW?

After all roster spots have been accepted. Each team will have a meeting (usually during a practice slot). At the meeting, parents can meet each other as well as the coach(es) of their player’s team. A prospective schedule of what league, tournaments, practices for the fall season will be given out at this meeting.

Any new players who are not on a current FSA team are expected to fulfill their commitment with their old club through the spring (if their team is playing during the spring). Guest player opportunities for spring tournaments are possible but not guaranteed and will vary from team to team. Players will begin training with their Fall 2023 travel team the week of August 1, 2023.
