Thank you for your interest in the Learning Options, Inc. 2021 FIRST Robotics Program!
The popularity of this program has grown each year and it is important for you to register your child as soon as possible to ensure a spot on the team. We will fill the spaces on our teams based on the order in which registrations are submitted. (In order for a registration to be considered complete, payment in full must be received.) There are only a total of 18 First LEGO League: Challenge (FLL:C) spaces and 12 First LEGO League: Explore (FLL:E) spaces available, (our team members from 2019 will have the first option to fill those spaces) and as soon as the teams have been filled all additional registrations will be added to a waiting list.
FLL Explore (ages 5-10, grades K-4) $75 fee (tuition assistance is available) A $100 fundraising requirement per family per semester will be added this year. Several different types of opportunities will be provided to meet that requirement, as it is not meant to present a hardship, but to build community and involvement in our long term programming. If you do not wish to participate in fundraisers, that requirement will be accepted as a donation.
The program will take place at 50 Mountain Park Dr., Fairmont, on Mondays from 4:30-6:00 pm, starting on September 6 and ending on December 13. (**they are welcome to pack a dinner and stay for dinner with the other participants from 6-6:30)
The FLL:E teams’ final project presentations (Expo) will take place at the WV State FLL Competition at FSU.
****Before joining this team, please be certain that you and your child are willing to make the commitment necessary to fully participate in this experience. For more information about what the FLL Explore program involves and the experience you can expect, please visit
http://www.firstlegoleague.org for details.****
Please note, DO NOT register your child at the
firstlegoleague.org website, it's just to learn more about the program, you will get a team registration link when your child is placed on one of our teams.
Please note: 9 and 10-year-old participants may choose to join either the FLL:E or FLL:C team, but based on the student's past experience, we may encourage one team or the other for an optimal experience for your child and the other team members.
FLL:C (ages 9-14, grades 4-8) $150 fee (tuition assistance is available) A $100 fundraising requirement per family per semester will be added this year. Several different types of opportunities will be provided to meet that requirement, as it is not meant to present a hardship, but to build community and involvement in our long term programming. If you do not wish to participate in fundraisers, that requirement will be accepted as a donation.
This program will take place at 50 Mountain Park Dr., Fairmont, on Mondays, from 4:30-8:00 pm, starting September 13 and ending on December 13.
The teams will participate in a Scrimmage and a Regional Qualifier (Dates and locations for both to be announced). Teams MUST be advanced through the Regional in order to move forward to the WV State FLL Tournament, but even if our team doesn't successfully pass through the qualifying phase, we WILL attend this event together so that we can share the great experience, support the other FLL teams as they compete and support our FLL:E teams during their final Expo experience.

Our location has a full-service kitchen available for our use for dinner. In light of COVID-19 precautions, team members will need to bring a bag meal from home and water. We have a refrigerator and microwave available.
PLEASE NOTE: For the robotics program to be successful and for your children to have the most positive learning experience possible, it is important for us to have the support and commitment of the parents. Parents often indicate a willingness to help the teams as needed and I will try to create lists of necessary tasks to share with you. For at least the first few weeks of the program, it may be easier for the coaches and students to establish a good working relationship and to strengthen team bonds if the parents aren't present at the learning center during the program, but you are always welcome to join us for dinner (6-6:30). If you have concerns about leaving your child or if your child has special needs that the coaches or I should be aware of, please contact me privately and we'll find a solution that will be comfortable for everyone. As the season progresses and the schedule becomes more demanding we certainly will need the assistance of on-site parents and I will rely on your willingness to volunteer your time.
We're looking forward to another great year with the Scieneers and the Jr. Scieneers, and we're thrilled that your child is excited to join us!
