Tipperary Museum’s Outreach Department has developed a Loan Box based on the theme Hearth and Home. The box looks at the history of domestic life in Ireland during the past 200 years. It contains 16 objects related to the theme, some original, some replicas, plus activities and talking points for teachers and facilitators to use with students and clients. It encourages users to explore the past in a hands on, empathetic way. Boxes can be borrowed for a day, a week or longer. Three different resource booklets are available: Primary school, secondary school and community groups.
It links to the school curriculum by incorporating activities designed to support:
- Language development and awareness
- The study of everyday lives and ordinary people
- Students working as historians
- The use of creative imagination and the visual and dramatic arts
- The investigation of local, national and international history
- SPHE and SESE
