We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of South Boston, strongly support the inclusion of affordable housing in the Request for Proposals (RFP) for Massachusetts Convention Center Authority land in South Boston. Affordable housing is a fundamental right and a crucial need in our community.
MCCA will be seeking developers for 6 acres of unoccupied land along D and E streets across from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The planned RFP calls for developing the area to provide a mid-price market to support the hotels and businesses open in the area. We join other South Boston residents to urge the MCCA to require substantial affordable housing and open space from the developers of these sites.
As South Boston continues to experience rapid growth and development, the rising cost of housing has reached alarming levels, making it increasingly difficult for low- and mid-income families and seniors to stay in our community. By actively prioritizing affordable housing options within the proposed development, we can create a more inclusive and equitable community.
Therefore, we respectfully request that MCCA incorporate affordable housing and open space in the final RFP.
