Our beautiful woodlands provide a home
to a wide variety of wildlife. They can also help people make a house and a home.
Come visit two locally grown timber frame homes in Windsor and Worthington, MA, with a tour
of their unique features by their builder David Bowman of Cummington, MA.
These two houses are examples of how to put local wood into
a house, using white pine, hemlock, birch, cherry and other native timbers.
Each house offers different pathways and models for how to choose what wood to
use and how to incorporate it into a home plan with a variety of priorities in
mind: keeping things local, reducing carbon footprint, keeping costs low and
the process economical, increasing the beauty and aesthetic impact of a home,
creating something unique, and making
something that will make statement and leave a legacy for generations to come. Both
homes are examples of ways to make a beautiful home using local, natural
materials.
Please register for directions to the site locations. Tour
will begin in Windsor and end in Worthington, with a short (5-10 minute) drive
from first site to the second. Refreshments will be provided.
This event is sponsored by the Massachusetts WoodlandsInstitute and the Franklin Land Trust.
