Kachina Peaks Avalanche Center (KPAC) is a volunteer-led, non-profit group with a mission to provide avalanche education, safety training, and snowpack information for the San Francisco Peaks and Kachina Peaks Wilderness of Northern Arizona. Between 2012 and 2024, students redemmed over $29,000 in avalanche education scholarships, more than any other avalanche center in the United States. Since 2022, KPAC has issued 140 avalanche forecasts.
KPAC board members provide leadership within the backcountry skiing community and serve as ambassadors of our sport and organization within Northern Arizona and nationally. KPAC seeks qualified candidates to join our Board.
Qualifications: A strong interest and passion for winter backcountry use and a willingness to contribute and follow through on projects. KPAC is interested in skill sets related to fundraising, grant writing, community organizing, volunteer recruitment, outreach, and nonprofit development. Board members have an opportunity to find their areas of focus where they can make the most significant contribution. KPAC is open to ideas beyond what is listed above, so if you have skills that would benefit KPAC, please apply!
Board members commit to attending monthly board meetings, volunteering at events, and contributing to board work and special projects. While it varies seasonally, board members can expect to commit an average of 10+ hours per month. Board members can attend meetings virtually if needed, but ideally, board members are based in Flagstaff and can be present at in-person events. Board members are volunteers and receive no compensation.
The KPAC board should reflect our community at large. KPAC is committed to supporting and retaining board members of different identities, experiences, and backgrounds. KPAC strongly encourages Black, Indigenous, people of color, women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.
