Cannon Music Camp, at the Hayes School of Music, is a three-week comprehensive summer music experience held on the campus of Appalachian State University.

During the three week duration of camp, each student has the opportunity to explore music and music performance at the college preparatory level. As one of approximately 200 campers, each student follows an intense daily schedule of classroom, ensemble, and individual instruction while interacting with other students whose interests and talents are similar.

Our camp seeks to accept those students who have a strong sense of character and citizenship, along with outstanding scholarship and musical achievements. We do not wish to admit a student who is unable or unwilling to act responsibly, follow directions, or accept constructive criticism. A student who tends to "strike out on their own" creating independence from a structured program is not an ideal fit for our camp. As a camp experience embodying the tenants of learning, developing, and maturing in both life and experience, we seek students who can and will contribute to and benefit from our program.  

With these ideals in mind, we require incoming students, applying for acceptance to our camp, to have at least one school administrator/counselor and their music instructor reference these criteria to applicants via this online questionnaire. The student applying to Cannon Music Camp believes you have knowledge to make a recommendation on their behalf.

Essentially, we seek to confirm this student is in "good standing" at your school or to gain knowledge on the contrary should this be the case.  All applicants and parents are aware this recommendation is a prerequisite of acceptance to camp. We appreciate your time and thoughtful candor.
