Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your experiences raising a child on the spectrum and providing insights that future generations of autism parents might use to better support their autistic children.

I am writing a book for parents of newly diagnosed children with the goal of providing a realistic and hope-filled book that focuses on supporting the child using empathy and understanding. My plan is to include your insights alongside input from autistic individuals who have filled out a similar set of questions.

4. Could you describe how you felt when you received your child’s diagnosis? *

i.e. worried that your child might not ever talk, money or insurance issues, etc.
6. Who or what was your best resource during the first year after your child’s diagnosis? *
i.e. a specific book you read, a Facebook group, a fellow autism parent, etc.
7. If you could recommend a specific book or blog to all new autism parents, what would it be?
8. Was there anything that you focused on with your child that ended up not mattering as they grew up?
i.e. therapy for something that went away naturally, trying to stop or redirect certain stims, etc.
9. Was there anything that you didn't focus on that you wish you would have?
i.e. domestic or vocational skills, emotional or behavioral issues, etc.
