ASPHY 2303:
Cosmology is the study of the Universe as a whole. In this course, we will explore the human understanding of cosmos and our place in it. We'll take a survey of the ancient creation myths and models of the Universe, learn the modern techniques of observing large scale cosmic structures, study the big bang theory in detail, and assess the predictions made about the fate of the Universe. The course will apply the fundamental concepts from astrophysics and particle physics, like general relativity, quantum fluctuations, relativity etc. The sessions and discussions are expected to challenge and broaden the view of the student.

The final project of the course will be a thesis presentation where an original idea (hypothesis) for the origin (or death) of the Universe is presented with supporting arguments.

1 Introduction
2     Techniques in Cosmology
3     Origin of the Universe
4     End of the Universe
5     Mysteries of Cosmology
6     Review, Final Quiz & Thesis Presentation

This course will require the student to spend 4 hours a week for participating in the session and 4 hours additionally for background reading and completing assignments. This is different from our usual mode of teaching and we expect the students to be responsible and highly motivated. There will be a continuous assessment and a personalised report card will be generated highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each student.

Coordination will be done through Google Classroom for students and WhatsApp group for parents.
The online sessions will take place over Zoom Meetings.
Students will enjoy free interaction with the facilitator during the 30-min discussion segment in each session.
