Summer YouTheatre Audition Form
A Brave New YouTheatre
A Brave New YouTheatreJoin us August 6-9 for an exciting new experience with your friends from CCT! We have re-imagined our summer show to reflect this year's unique circumstances and challenges. The plan is to produce four non-musical productions with smaller casts, no more than 20 performers per production, to make it easier to keep space between cast members, backstage and on stage. Rehearsing non-musical plays will allow us to concentrate on our acting skills, and grow as actors. The shows will be divided by PB&J and CCTeens. In order to adhere to recommended guidelines, the audition process for this year will be a bit different than what you are used to.

1. All auditionees should fill in the form below completely. Make sure you get to the end and click "submit."

2. CCTeens (7th-12 grades in 19/20 school year) will record themselves performing one of the monologues included in the audition packet. Photos and videos will be emailed to audition@columbiachildrenstheatre.com and should be submitted not later than June 14.

3. PB&J actors (1st-6th grades in 19/20 school year) can audition one of two ways:
    A. At a live one-on-one live audition (preferred method.) Live auditionees will only be seen by appointment, and
only with a completed electronic audition form. At the PB&J one-on-one live auditions, masks will be
required for auditionees so please bring a mask to wear or one will be provided. There is no preparation
necessary for the audition. Come as you are.
    B. If unable to audition in person, PB&J auditionees can submit a video, recording themselves forno more than
two minutes either reading or telling a story they like using different voices and emotions.

PB&J Actors should also submit a photo of themselves to assist with casting. Photos and videos will be emailed to audition@columbiachildrenstheate.com and should be submitted no later than June 12.

Rehearsals will take place at Columbia Children’s Theatre and will be run safely with guidance from our COVID-19 task force. Policies and protocols will be emailed to you. Several zoom gatherings of all parents/caregivers will be required before rehearsals begin to explain the procedures and policies and to answer any questions.

Performances will be held in an outside in a venue TBA from August 6-9.

2020 SUMMER PRODUCTIONS:

THE GLASS DOG (directed by Larry Hembree) for PB&J grades 1st-6th in the 19/20 school year
The Glass Dog is the World Premiere of a new play for children written specifically for CCT on this occasion by Irmo, SC native and award-winning New York playwright Randall David Cook. Based on a short story of the same title by L. Frank Baum ("The Wizard of Oz"), the play is a fast-paced and zany romp through a quirky, fantastical, fun, and silly world where a glass dog is magically enchanted to life. As with every great fairy tale, there are potions, a wizard, a beautiful young lady, magic spells and, of course, “The most beautiful man in the world.”

ALICE IN WONDERLAND (directed by Julian Deleon) for PB&J grades 1st-6th in the 19/20 school year
Originally produced in CCT's 2009 season and penned by CCT Artistic Director, Jerry Stevenson, this re-imagining of Alice's adventures down the rabbit hole has all of your favorite characters and 5 different Alices!  Told in the inimitable CCT style, this highly imaginative production will engage your youngsters and delight audiences of all ages!  The wacky script features a Caterpillar laden with Kate Spade purses, a King of Hearts with no gavel, live hedgehogs and a character or two from Twilight!

LITTLE WOMEN (directed by Cathy Brookshire)  for CCTeens grades 7-9 in the 19/20 school year
Under the guidance of their beloved mother, the four young March sisters -- tempestuous Jo,
motherly Meg, shy Beth, and spoiled baby Amy -- struggle to keep their family going while
Father's away in the Civil War. In this beautifully dramatized adaptation of the classic novel,
even as privation, illness, and sibling rivalry cast their shadows, each girl strives to find her true
self.

MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY (directed by Paul Lindley) for CCTeens grades 10-12 in the 19/20 school year
It's the end of everything in contemporary America. A future without power. But what will survive? MR. BURNS asks how the stories we tell make us the people we are, explodes the boundaries between pop and high culture and, when society has crumbled, imagines the future for America's most famous family.
