This section we are asking you to please share with us which volunteer station you are interested in, and day(s) and time(s) you are available to work the volunteer station. Descriptions of volunteer stations are listed.

Greeters/Ushers - FSS Greeters are stationed in the parking lot and at the church’s main entrance. They assist people who have come to surrender by answering basic questions and calming uncertainty about the program’s legitimacy (ex., “Is this a trick and I’m going to be arrested as soon as I walk in the door?” Greeters and Ushers will work with the local church committee. THOTL’s Greeter/Usher shall provide leadership assisted by sub-committee volunteers to insure there is adequate seating for fugitive awaiting court appearance and for persons in the waiting areas and galleries.

Intake Table -FSS Intake Table volunteers staff the tables inside the church’s main entrance. They enter all surrendering persons on each day’s pre-numbered log sheet, place a corresponding pre-numbered wristband on them, and also answer very basic questions.

Waiting Area - FSS Waiting Area volunteers: (1) Organize and number three FSS forms that all surrendering persons must fill out; (2) Assist persons who need help completing the forms; (3) Receive the completed forms and place them in their designated baskets on a table in the waiting area; (4) continuously place and number new documents on the clipboards; and (5) Answer basic questions asked by people waiting to be processed.

Escorts -FSS Escort volunteers accompany surrendering persons from the waiting area to the courtrooms (and other court offices) and back as needed.

Exit -FSS Exit volunteers staff the church exit and hand deliver FSS flyers to people who have Completed the program. FSS Exit workers encourage all people who have just completed FSS to immediately reach out to family/friends and encourage them to surrender too.

Signage/Handouts -Volunteers will work with Media and Community Outreach Committee and will post signs in designated places within the site and in the surrounding community, i.e., neighborhood businesses, multi-service centers, libraries, etc.; will hand-out informational flyers, etc., to persons attending program during 4-day event. This committee will (in coordination with Media and Community Outreach) insure that all materials are available in English and Spanish.

Security -FSS security will work with the local church committee. THOTL’s security team will provide leadership assisted by sub-committee volunteers to positively engage guest, to direct traffic on the parking lot, to manage traffic flow in the building to avoid bottlenecks and to insure that no persons are allowed in unauthorized areas, or enter with prohibited items i.e., (guns, knives, etc.).

Food Service -Volunteers will work with the local church committee. Persons will assist with preparation of serving, and clean-up, including planning, ordering, and insuring there are adequate levels of water, refreshments, and other supplies such as cups, plasticware napkins, etc., for each day.

Maintenance -Volunteers will work with the local church staff. Persons will insure that all facilities are clean and readily accessible each day and that facilities are secured each evening; will insure that the parking lot and grounds are cleared of all litter at regularly scheduled times each day; will assist with setting up and taking down chairs, tables, tents, etc., as may be needed; will insure that portable toilets are rented and available as may be needed; will insure that all restrooms are cleaned and stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, etc. on a regularly scheduled basis each day.

Childcare -Childcare will insure that the childcare area is staffed each day with persons suitable to provide childcare (preferably persons referred by licensed childcare providers or other reliable sources) and able to engage in age-appropriate activities. This team will insure that the area is supervised by at least one social worker, educator, correctional officer, etc., at all times. This team shall devise a safety plan for any revealed or suspicious child abuse/endangerment. In the event any child’s caregiver is taken into custody, this team shall have a plan to insure that relatives or informal kin are contacted to pick the child up in order to avoid Child Protective Service involvement. However, there must be a plan in the event no one can be contacted.

First Aid Assistance -First Aid Assistance will insure there are persons on hand each day during hours of activity trained in basic first aid; will have emergency numbers readily available in the event it becomes necessary to call an ambulance, etc. Will insure there is a fully supplied first aid kit available at all times.
