Who is this for?
All Ukrainians (of any language preference, ethnic background, citizenship, migration history or status, or faith tradition) are welcome. Any Ukrainians affiliated with Bard College or the local community are welcome. If you support Ukrainians, but do not self-identify as a Ukrainian, we respectfully ask that you wait for another opportunity to meet. We may host future events
open to Ukrainian allies in our community, and you can mark your interest in receiving an invitation to such an event below.
We acknowledge that many so-called "non-ethnic Ukrainians" may have complicated relationships to the question of what it means to be Ukrainian today, so we want to adopt the most inclusive definition possible. If you or your family history have ties to Ukraine, you are most welcome to join us.
What is the purpose of gathering?
Our first intention is simply to gather our Ukrainian community to better support each other during this horrific war. Our second intention is to create a space where Ukrainians of many different backgrounds feel welcome. Our third intention is to begin a conversation about how to support the Ukrainian students who will be arriving as part of Bard’s Emergency Student Refuge Program in 2023, and to think about how we can support Ukrainians more generally. We are open to setting other intentions, too, and welcome ideas.
When and where will we meet?
Our first meeting will take place at Professor Maria Sonevytsky’s home on Friday, December 9 from 4:30-6 pm on Bard’s campus. Exact
address will be shared after RSVP. Light refreshments will be offered.
Thank you for RSVP-ing!
