Playtesting for 20 Strong (Spring 2024)
Thanks for your interest in joining CTG playtesting! We are currently looking for individuals interested in helping to test the content from the game 20 Strong, and its Tanglewoods and Cloudspire expansion decks! The information below should hopefully give an idea as to what you can expect, but note that specifics may change by the time we officially begin.

Playtesting is done on a volunteer basis. As a thank you for their time and effort, CTG store credit may be given to participants who are engaged throughout the process.

Playtesting will occur through Tabletop Simulator (TTS). Files will be routinely updated, which won't require any actions on your end. We will also be offering Print and Play files if you would prefer.

We will be using a forum platform (possibly through Wix, but this may be subject to change before the process begins) as our main means of communication with playtesters. This may require you to sign up for an account. You will need to check in on these forums frequently for updates. It will also be a place for you to ask rules questions and get answers.

The full playtesting process is scheduled to take up to 12 weeks, with the current plan of beginning the first full week of March. We will run different week-long sessions during this time, each session requiring at least 1 game. Games are expected to take around 30-45 minutes, but be sure allot additional time to submit feedback. You will be playing these games on your own time, so the only schedule you will need to account for is what content is being tested during which week. Each session will contain a single deck allowing us to make adjustments based on feedback from the previous session while testers play different content.  You are not expected to participate in every session, but we ask that you put in a bare minimum of 6 full plays over at least 3 different sessions if you sign up. You can skip sessions when you are busy or otherwise know you won't be able to submit the requested feedback by the deadline.

We are looking for playtesters who:

1. Have time to dedicate towards testing. Signing up for a session of playtesting is a commitment, and we need to know that we will get reports back from all of those that tell us they are participating. It is inevitable that a few folks will have something unexpected come up in their lives, and if that happens, please just let us know. However, please think before you apply about whether you have spare time to spend on playtesting. Remember, it takes time not just to play the game, but to learn the rules (and then relearn them when we adjust them), and to write out notes on your play experience.

2. Are able to analyze gameplay to help identify problems with balance, fun, and clarity. Playtesting is not just getting to play the game early. It is playing the game for the purpose of giving us feedback that we can use to make the game better.

3. Are comfortable playing a game that is not finished. The components, art, stats and rules you'll be looking at will be in various stages of polish or completion. They will have problems and will be changed throughout the course of testing. This is why we use playtesters to make the final product more polished and complete! Do not expect the content to feel "done" during the playtest phase.

4. Are willing and able to keep their knowledge of the new content and their experience playing it confidential. It is really important that all information about the content while in development comes from our team. If you become a playtester, you will not be able to openly talk about it. Even after the content is released, we ask that our playtesters not give details about the development. We want folks to see the final product for what it is, not what it was halfway through testing.

Playtesting isn't for everybody. Some people love it, and some people find it tedious in comparison to playing a final product. There is no shame in being either kind of person, so please consider how engaging you will find this project before you apply. We want all of our playtesters to have a fun and rewarding experience!

If you are interested in playtesting, please enter your email and continue to the next page.

Please note that filling out this form does not guarantee that you will be selected to participate in playtesting, or that you will be selected right away. There are many factors we must consider in choosing playtesters, so please answer the questions honestly. Thank you for your interest!

If you have any outstanding questions you would like to have answered before expressing your interest, feel free to email Salem Scott at sscott@chiptheorygames.com.
