1. Introduction to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Summary:

The 2030 Agenda sets the vision for global action towards achieving a more sustainable future for people and the planet. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are balanced across three pillars of sustainable development (economic, social and environment) with a focus on ensuring that the most vulnerable and marginalized groups in the population are not left behind. This webinar aims to introduce students to the history of SDGs, the current progress of the goals and targets as well as an overview of the 2030 Agenda through global, national and local lenses, taking into account of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the progress of the SDGs.

2. Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals: From Global Goals to Local Action

Summary:

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) present an unprecedented opportunity for members of the local community to play an important role in developing practical solutions to challenges to further the progress of sustainable development. Localizing the SDGs relates to how local governments and organizations can support the 2030 Agenda through a bottom-up approach and how the SDGs can provide a blueprint for action. This webinar examines the localization of the 2030 Agenda in Canada and the current action taken by local communities to achieve sustainability. Furthermore, this webinar provides an opportunity to discuss relevant examples in Canada.

3. The Agenda 2030: Youth as Agents of Change

Summary:

Young people around the world play a critical role in shaping the 2030 Agenda and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Around the world, young people are calling for peace, justice, inclusion, gender equality and human rights. They have the power to determine the future and create a pathway to a world where balance and equity can be found and where no one is to be left behind. This webinar focuses on the progress young people have made across Canada combating some of the world's biggest challenges and inspiring change and creating opportunities for local action.

4. The Agenda 2030: Leaving No One Behind

Summary:

Leaving no one behind (LNOB) is central to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It focuses on the commitment of all UN Member States to combat discrimination, rising inequalities and their root causes within and amongst countries. People who are left behind can be the result of one or more of the following factors: living in poverty; facing exclusion; expriencing discrimination and inequalities. This webinar explains the concept of LNOB and steps taken by local communities to combat its causes and effects.
