Questionnaire on the admission to Pre-College and Higher Music Education

This questionnaire was developed by the joint AEC / YMTE Working Group on Pre-College music education of the ARTEMIS project. YMTE and AEC are European umbrella organisations representing the interests of Higher Music Education Institutions (AEC) and Pre-College Music education (YMTE) at European and international level.

The WG is investigating issues in relation to the preparation of young people striving for a career as professional musicians and their admission to pre-college programmes and to higher music education institutions (HMEI) at the bachelor level. One of the objectives of the Pre-College WG is to gain insight into the admission procedures to both pre-college and higher music education studies. The questionnaire below focuses on this area.

We want to find out whether your institution provides targeted preparation for admission to higher music education studies and if so, how this is organised, what the needs and what the challenges are. Before continuing, you are asked to select below whether you are representing an institution that is active in the field of pre-college music education or whether you represent a higher music education institution.


If your institution is active in both areas, you are welcome to fill in both questionnaires. You can also fill in more than only one questionnaire for each domain if your institution provides differentiated programmes, in particular in pre-college education (e.g. if there are programmes and requirements differing from each other for piano and strings, or for composers and jazz musicians). In this case, please add a keyword after the name of your institution that allows us to clearly assign the questionnaire (for example 'piano' or 'composition').  Please only use the option of sending multiple responses per institution if the questions cannot be answered meaningfully in one questionnaire.
