CED Mentorship Program

Objective
The objective of the CED Peer Mentorship Program is to connect first-year, second-year, and transfer Viterbi students to a current student who has already completed their first year at USC. Peer mentors will provide counsel to their mentees on transitioning to USC with emphasis on the Native American, Black, and Latinx student experience. We hope that by pairing students with a similar role model, incoming students will receive:

  • Validation of their academic experiences
  • Guidance on how to take advantage of their undergraduate years at USC
  • Knowledge on how to balance familial, work, and academic obligations
  • A greater sense of personal development, an engineering identity, and confidence
Peer Mentors Can Support in the Following Areas:
  • Academics
  • Discussing Interest in Major
  • Finding Internships
  • Getting Involved
  • Adjusting to College
  • Personal Life
  • Making the Most of Your Time at USC
  • Finding Resources

Peer Mentors Are Not:
  • Academic Tutoring
  • Homework Assistance
  • Paper Editing
  • Quick Fix/Instant Improvements
  • Professional Counselors

Disclosure & Informed Consent:
Peer Mentors and CED staff are unable to promise confidentiality. Although we will strive to offer privacy, Peer Mentors and CED staff may consult with one another and outside resources such as USC Counseling, Trojans Care 4 Trojans, etc.

As a participant in the CED Peer Mentoring program, I understand the following expectations and agree to:
  • Meet virtually through video chat (i.e. Zoom, not phone call) or in-person three times per semester during the 2023-24 academic year. Every meeting will be 30-45 minutes.
  • Be on-time and attend all scheduled meetings, or CONTACT IMMEDIATELY if running late.
  • In the event of emergency or illness, text or email your Peer Mentor at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule.
  • Contact Miguel Anzelmetti (anzelmet@usc.edu) to discuss any problems or concerns that could impact the peer mentor relationship.
