Peer Mentors work alongside experienced EYA staff to run our land-based education programs for high school-aged youth in Strathcona Community Gardens and Renfrew Ravine. You bring your experience and passion and we provide skill building workshops, one-on-one mentorship with an EYA educator, and opportunities to practice facilitation and group leadership. As a Peer Mentor, you will gain and develop skills in:
- Group facilitation and management
- Land-based education
- Youth work, including strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches
- Decolonizing practices & Indigenous ways of knowing
- Teamwork and communication
- Knowledge of native plants and wildlife
Dates: June 8th - August 20th
This program consists of two parts:
- Skill-building workshops: Training weekend June 8 & 9, then weekly Thursday evening sessions starting June 20 (5:00 - 7:30 pm)
- Peer Mentoring: Weekly program support, 1 day/week from 10 AM - 3 PM (days vary according to the program you are supporting; learn more about the programs at https://eya.ca/program/nature-stewards/)
This program is open to youth ages 18 - 25 who identify as BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and/or living with a disability. Lunch on peer mentoring day and snacks on skill-building workshop day are provided, and bus tickets are available.
Up to $200 honoraria provided. This will be sent upon program completion via e-transfer.
