Fostering Empathy and Critical Thinking in the Classroom: Thinking and speaking through different points of view
Adopting various forms of creative and imaginary play can facilitate the acquisition of critical thinking and analytical skills among students of all ages, including college students. Role-playing games (such as Dungeons and Dragons) are wonderful tools for opening minds, introducing new concepts, and fostering the ability to view things from multiple perspectives. Role-playing activities can be valuable in courses across the disciplines that call for critical analysis from diverse points of view. The key to the success of such activities is providing students with sufficient material so that they can play their “role” to the fullest.

Implementing Career Curriculum:  A Simple Process to Increase Equity and Engagement
Career Curriculum Integration (CCI) is a collection of assignments that help students master career readiness skills. Crafted by career advisors, faculty, and students, CCI is designed in a plug and play format, however, students benefit when assignments are fully integrated into content courses. In this workshop, faculty will gain an understanding of how CCI acts as an equity tool to connect education with career pathways, learn how to access career curriculum, and build a plan for integrating a CCI assignment of their choosing into one of their courses. With career readiness a hallmark of a polytechnic education, now is the perfect time to increase engagement by helping students connect course content to their career aspirations.
