The Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council (PHNDC) is seeking volunteers who wish to help create economic opportunity for local restaurants by having Vanderbilt Avenue participate in New York City's Open Streets: Restaurants program. Under this program, Vanderbilt Avenue would be closed to traffic, and restaurants would be allowed additional space for outdoor dining on the street. Details of the program are available at
https://www1.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/pedestrians/openstreets-restaurants.shtml.
Volunteers are sought to help supervise the operation of the open street, in particular to make sure that restaurants comply with DOT requirements to keep a lane clear for emergency vehicles. The hours of operation of the program are Fridays 5PM-10PM, and Saturdays and Sundays 12PM-10PM, with setup an hour in advance of opening, and breakdown from 10PM-11PM. At present, the City has authorized the program through October 2020.
Volunteers are especially encouraged to sign up for setup and breakdown shifts, where more hands are helpful!
