We recognize the unique challenges Black students encounter in their pursuit of higher education, and we are dedicated to providing them with the essential resources necessary to thrive professionally, personally, and academically. The Black Career Mentorship Program (BCMP) aims provide 3rd and 4th-year students at Mount Royal University with career mentorship and professional networks as they embark on their journey into the workforce.
During 2023-24 academic year 20 Black students will be able to select a Black mentor participating in the BCMP such as a professor, faculty or staff member of MRU member, alumni, or industry professional in their field of study. Selected students will meet with their mentors during the winter semester (January to April) and can expect to meet them bi-weekly or monthly for approximately 4-5 hours per month.
Selected students in the program can expect to gain:
- Unique insights into various career paths.
- Professional development and networking opportunities.
- Career building workshops.
- Assistance in resume building and interview preparation.
- Support in making informed career decisions.
- References for graduate school or future work opportunities.

Time Commitment:
The program will run from January up until the end of April. Students can expect to spend a minimum of around 4-5 hours a month in this program which includes bi weekly or monthly meetings with your mentor, mandatory workshops and a kick-off dinner event on January 11, 2023.
