The October 22 Coalition was formed in 1996 to build resistance to police violence in powerful ways and to empower the families of people killed by police to lead the movement, in partnership with all who want to end police terror.

The October 22 Coalition holds an annual National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation. The goal is to bring forward a powerful, visible, national protest and to highlight and amplify the work happening in local areas. Recently, the October 22nd Coalition has expanded its scope beyond the National Day of Protest to building a nationwide Emergency Response Network and other activities to connect and strengthen the movement.

Police brutality is a national epidemic. Police and vigilante violence are escalating, and we want to be in a stronger position to denounce these atrocities and respond quickly across the country. While the particulars may vary from place to place, we all benefit from a national network of shared information and action.

Our goal is to create a network of groups and individuals ready to take action when it is needed most. By joining the October 22 Coalition, you become part of this network to share and receive action alerts, ideas, and support from organizations doing this work around the country.
