Field work will take place from June 14 to the 18th (plan to arrive by the evening of the 13th), on the San Juan National Forest near Pagosa Springs, Colorado. The crew will camp around a Forest Service Guard Station on the forest, at an elevation of around 8,500 feet.
This project will consist of documenting peeled ponderosa pine trees. Tasks will include hiking, tree coring, and documentation.
COVID-19:
We strongly encourage everyone to get a Covid-19 vaccination prior to participating in our projects (remember, you need two weeks after your last dose to be considered fully vaccinated); however, a Covid-19 vaccination is not required to participate. Unvaccinated participants will be required to show proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test immediately prior to the start of the field project, be asked to isolate from the time of the test until the start of the project, and will be asked to wear masks in certain situations according to current CDC guidelines.
We have developed a comprehensive set of safety protocols for field and camp. These include increased hand-washing, limiting the number of individuals in the kitchen area, and modified food service plans. These protocols, including our mask policy for unvaccinated individuals, are meant to protect not only the other participants but also to protect the project--if someone becomes ill during a project it is highly likely the project will be immediately cancelled. Please feel free to reach out to us at
Chris.Johnston@paleocultural.org or 303-439-4098 if you have specific questions about our Covid-19 safety protocols.
