CMSC-CHRCL's class-action lawsuit against US Dept. of Education & Secretary Betsy DeVos
The California-Mexico Studies Center (CMSC) and the the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law (CHRCL) are working to file a class-action lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education and Secretary Betsy DeVos’ exclusion of DACA, TPS, and other immigrant students from the CARES Act benefits for colleges and universities. While the bill does not reflect the exclusion of these students currently enrolled in a higher education institution, the Department determined that these groups are not eligible.

We are trying to identify DACA, TPS, and other immigrant students who were denied CARES Act benefits or are ineligible for those benefits as potential plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging their exclusion from CARES Act benefits. We need your response AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so we can assess the viability of a law suit.

If you or someone that you know (i.e., siblings, friends, classmates, etc.) is interested in serving as a plaintiff in a possible lawsuit, please complete the following form. Only college/university students should respond. Your responses are CONFIDENTIAL.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Prof. Armando Vazquez-Ramos at: californiamexicocenter@gmail.com or call the CMSC office at: (562) 430-5541, or email Peter Schey at pschey@centerforhumanrights.org subject line CARES Act legal question. Thank you.
