2022-23 Newburyport PTO Events and Volunteering Opportunities

Welcome back to school! The Newburyport PTO serves all students and families at the Nock, Molin, and Bresnahan Schools. We aim to raise $95,000 this year to fulfill our commitment to funding field trip transportation, cultural enrichment programs, and various extracurricular activities.  We also organize teacher appreciation and family events.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to help our schools and build connections in our school community.  We have lots of initiatives this year and any help is greatly appreciated!  Please see the committee categories below and indicate your volunteer interests.  You can check off as many committees as you wish! You will be placed on a committee email list.  This is NOT a formal commitment!  It will just ensure that we send you more detailed information about planning meetings and/or volunteer opportunities for that event.

If you are unable to indicate your volunteer interests at this time, you can still receive the PTO communication by including your name and email. That way you are always in the know about the PTO events and initiatives.

The PTO also has a general meeting on the second Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm.  Everyone is welcome and we’d love for you to attend!

Event Committees

Feel free to select as many events as you would like. Please note that this is not a formal commitment. Additionally, some committees are only relevant to specific schools, as noted below.

Sprirtwear Sales

(Throughout the year, the PTO will be offering spirit wear sales, and we are looking for volunteers to help with the sorting and distributing of the products)

BRESNAHAN Fall Fest (October)

(This is a whole school family event.)

Election Day Bake Sale (Tuesday, November 8th)

(This is a one day event. Volunteers contribute baked goods and/or work at the bake sale table at the Senior Center on Election day.)

Community Bake Sales

(There will be various dates for community bake sales. Volunteers contribute baked goods and/or work at the bake sale table.)

BOKS Program

(BOKS is a free physical activity program for kids of all ages and abilities. You don't have to be a teacher or a youth development professional to volunteer. We will provide training and have veteran volunteers running the program, which will be launched at the Bres on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school starts.)

Winter Greens Sale (November)

(This is primarily a one-day volunteering opportunity for parents and families.  Your job would be to help distribute orders of wreaths and greens at the Bresnahan School.)

Social Events for Parents/Caregivers

(Grownups need fun too! This committee will plan events for parents and caregivers (sans children) to enjoy some fun gatherings while fundraising for the PTO to benefit the kids. A win-win for everyone!)

Thankful Campaign (November)

(In November, we highlight how much we appreciate and rely on people in our school community. This year, we are making a rock garden and hosting a school community breakfast during the week of Thanksgiving. As a volunteer, you could help create the rock garden or contribute items to the breakfast.)

Downtown Hot Cocoa Stands (Sunday, November 27th during Downtown Tree Lighting, Saturday, December 10th and Sunday 11th at Santa’s Village on Brown Square 11-2 pm)

(This is a fun volunteering opportunity for parents or families!  The PTO will be giving out hot cocoa and collecting donations downtown. Responsibilities would be helping pass out hot cocoa, and set up/clean up, depending on the date and shift you choose.)

Staff Cookie Swap (December)

(This is a one day event with no planning meetings! You can volunteer to donate cookies, paper goods, or help with set up.)

Calendar Fundraiser

Dog Show

Candygrams (January/February)

(This is an awesome committee to join to meet other parents and if you want to spread joy!  You can volunteer to help fill candy boxes or deliver packages - usually day before Valentine’s day. So much fun!)

BRESNAHAN 100 Day Celebration (February)

(Help welcome Zero the Hero to celebrate the 100th day of school.  This is a one day in-school event.  You can volunteer to help decorate the school or help with 100 day activities.  This is mainly a Kindergarten event but we will be helping other grades celebrate as well!)

BRESNAHAN AND MOLIN Clipper Readathon (March)

(Help us make the Readathon fun for kids by helping out at a library campout or favorite character parade.  New ideas are always welcome too!)

Opportunity Nights

(Do you have any connections to local restaurants or businesses that would like to help fundraise for the PTO, or would you like to help organize this initiative?  Please sign up here!)

Pancake Breakfast

(A community event to take place at the Nock School in the spring. We hope to have staff preparing pancakes. This is a new event so have not decided on specific details or a date.)

Pasta Night/Clipper Pride Night

(This is an event at the Molin School. Each grade will have a pasta dinner. Dress in your clipper gear and walk to the high school football game after dinner. Both grades will be on a Friday night in October.)

Teacher Appreciation Events (week of Monday May 1st)

(We are always looking for new ideas to celebrate our teachers!  Volunteers can help with planning or hosting activities (such as teacher breakfast).  This is not a heavy time commitment.)

BRESNAHAN STEAM Expo (May)

BRESNAHAN 3rd grade yearbooks (planning begins in February)

BRESNAHAN 3rd grade celebration (June)

BRESNAHAN Spring Fling (June)

MOLIN STEM Showcase (May)

NOCK 6th grade dance (date TBD)

(This is a new event!  We would love help planning and will need parent volunteers for the actual event.)

NOCK 7th and 8th grade dance (date TBD)

(Also a new event!  We would love help planning and will need parent volunteers for the actual event.)

NOCK 8th grade celebration (June)

(This is a wonderful opportunity for 8th grade parents.  We would love help planning and will need parent volunteers for the actual event.)

Kitchen Tour (Spring or Summer 2023, committee meetings starts in January)

(This is one of the PTO’s biggest fundraisers and our largest call for volunteers. There are so many opportunities to help - from visiting potential kitchens, securing advertisements, making programs and gift bags, or just helping on the day of the tour. This is a fabulous event and all volunteers receive a FREE ticket for the tour!)

Questions, comments or ideas?

(If you have any specific questions you’d like us to answer or even ideas for some of these events, please share!)
