West Side Community Advisory Council

Do you want to help us tell the full story of who has been able to stay and thrive and who has been pushed out of the West Side? Join a group of fellow West Siders who will use story-telling, organizing, and research to create a path to  justice for those who have been harmed in the past and present.

In the 1960s the City of St. Paul pushed families out of the West Side Flats. In 2022, the West Side Community Organization (WSCO) interviewed many of these families to bring their stories to light. Click here to see WSCO’s gallery of stories from the Flats.

Now, WSCO is working with Research in Action (RIA) to gather community members to listen, learn, and take action to hold the City of St. Paul accountable.

The West Side Community Advisory Council is important for the following reasons:

  • Advisory Council members provide expert guidance and support

  • Advisory Council members are closest to the problem and are closest to the solutions.

Advisory Council Logistics/Details:

  • We are hoping to fill 8-10 seats

  • RIA and WSCO will compensate Advisory Council members with a stipend of $50 per Advisory Council meeting attended

  • Advisory Council meetings will be 2-hours long and held monthly until December 2023

We are hoping to have a diverse representation of voices at the table. We invite West Side residents, current and past, as well as folks who work, play, and worship in the West Side community to apply.

If you are interested in being a member of the Advisory Council please fill out the following survey by Tuesday, February 14, 2023. All information provided in this form will be confidential.
