The Cinderella Project works to motivate vulnerable Metro Vancouver students make healthy choices, stay invested in life, connected to school and meet the milestone of high school graduation.
This program was rooted in the fundamental beliefs that inclusivity is the foundation of a successful community. Every one of the students that we support have experienced marginalization, discrimination, isolation and bullying/violence. These youth are experiencing deep impacts on their mental health, often connected to traumas relating to racism, homophobia, transphobia, cultural intolerance, cognitive and physical disabilities coupled with severe socioeconomic disparities. They don’t feel worth, understood or hopeful. We work hard though mentorship to create a safe non-judgmental, unconditional support network to help these students know that they are deeply valued, understood and included in our communities and that they are supported in their journey to high school graduation (for many they are the first in their family to ever do so).
We know that education is an essential key in being able to break cycles of poverty and unlock opportunities for a positive future.
Our volunteers need to be patient, gentle and positive while recognizing our student’s need for privacy and confidentiality.
