About The Workshop
This free workshop, led by Thurrock-raised artist zack mennell, explores how we can transform items, objects and materials which carry negative associations. Using Live Art and performance art practices, we’ll look at how we can imbue these ‘contaminated materials’ with new meanings that foster recovery and suggest new relationships.
What do these objects do to us and the landscape?
How can we shift the power dynamics in these relationships? Can we become object while letting the material become us? At what point does that transformation occur?
How do these relationships to material speak through socio-cultural issues? In being considered parasitic what transformations occur when taking on that mantle?
Can we find ways to make the intense aspects silly and vise versa?
Care & FacilitationThis workshop should not be understood as a therapeutic process. zack and their team commit to leading the process with artistic and human compassion but the facilitation of this workshop is not a mode of psychological or professional care.
