BRIEF is seeking young adults (16-26) and family members with first-hand experience to join the Coalition. These members will serve in a consultant capacity; be involved in decision-making; and participate in the work of creating a better system of care for children and families in Essex County, NY.
BRIEF Young Adult and Family Member Representatives Description:
Summary:
With the support from the BRIEF staff and Executive Committee, young adult/family member representatives will learn about our local services system; share constructive ideas on how we can improve local services; and be willing to commit time to the work.
Member Responsibilities:
Young Adult & Family Representatives will be expected to
>Complete the BRIEF orientation and useful trainings;
>Communicate with support contact;
>Represent young adult and/or family member experience by participating in various meetings and activities, as able (Approx. 1- 2 hrs/month).
>Meeting times will be established with school and regular work schedules in mind.
>Memberships are re-evaluated annually on January 1st.
Qualifications:
>Representative must have lived experience in directly receiving OR parenting a child/youth that has received services or is still receiving services in the Special Education, Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Substance Use, Developmental Disabilities, Foster Care, DSS, Probation, Juvenile Justice, WIC/SNAP or combination of system(s) in Essex County, NY.
>Young Adult Representatives are 16 - 26 years of age
>Current resident of Essex County, NY.
Compensation: Young Adult (2) and Family Member (2) representatives selected by BRIEF Executive Committee are eligible for compensation for their consultation time:
>Each representative will receive a $50 pre-paid card per 60 - 120 minute meeting, during which they provide consultation.
>Additional funds may be available for transportation, childcare, and/or other participation barriers.
