Call for Ambassadors: Global Challenges in Economics and Computation

We are looking for EconCS researchers to serve as ambassadors for SIGecom's $150K "Global Challenges in Economics and Computation" research grants. (For more information on the grants, see www.gcec.org.)

Ambassadors will play an important role in increasing the diversity and social impact of the EconCS community. Ambassadors will be publicly acknowledged on the website (www.gcec.org) for their important contributions in these areas.

Ambassadors can serve a variety of roles, as described below. Please select all areas for which you would like to contribute.

The only prerequisite to be an ambassador is that you or your advisor have had at least one paper accepted at EC or WINE (either this year or previously).

REVIEWING SUBMISSIONS. The GCEC submission deadline is May 22nd. Depending on the number of submissions, we may need additional reviewers from the EconCS community. Each reviewer will be expected to provide a lightweight review for 5-10 submissions. Note that the review process is significantly less intensive than an EC main conference review, as project proposals are 1-2 pages long and minimally technical.

BEING INTRODUCED TO PROSPECTIVE COLLABORATORS. Many applicants have posted in the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/gcec20) looking for collaborators for their proposals. Check this box if you are interested in being introduced to such aspiring EconCS researchers from low- and middle-income countries who appear to have overlapping interests with your own.

PROVIDING MENTORSHIP FOR APPLICANTS. Many applicants have posted in the Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/gcec20) looking for lightweight feedback on their proposals. Check this box if you would like to be matched to a relevant applicant to provide such lightweight feedback. (If you do not use Facebook, we can find another way to connect you with these applicants.)

PROVIDING MENTORSHIP FOR FINALISTS/WINNERS. A subset of proposals will be submitted for presentation at EC 2020's main track (in a special session), as well as at a corresponding "Global Challenges" EC workshop. Check this box if you are willing to help these finalists and winners prepare their virtual presentations. You would be expected to provide regular feedback to applicants from early June to mid-July (e.g., 1-2 times per week, for about an hour each week).

BEING INTERVIEWED ON YOUR RESEARCH. We are trying to create a library of EconCS success stories, in order to introduce applicants to EconCS and help them better understand how EconCS can be applied for social impact.
