Hi! Thanks for your interest in working with youth at Genesis Coffee.
Mentor baristas have two main responsibilities:
1) Rock the socks off the Genesis Coffee coffee bar! Learn how to work the shop proficiently, as any employed barista would. We are a real business! So knowing how to serve all the drinks on our menu, with the appropriate customer service and to standard, is pivotal. Don't worry—we train you for several weeks before leaving you to it.
2) Share your skills with someone else! Help your youth partner become proficient in making and serving the menu, while also working with them to achieve other goals in their life, like: conducting a job search, building a resume, practicing interviewing, finishing homework, making conversation or just being a kind, listening friend.
What's the commitment look like?
Mentors work either a morning shift (8am-12pm) or afternoon shift (12pm-3:30pm) once per week (M-F) with a youth participant. We ask you commit to a minimum of 6 months.
Skills + Strengths we look for in mentors:
💫 Affinity for and patience with (at times difficult) youth and desire to invest in their success
💫 Flexible and adaptable to youth needs, while maintaining professional + personal boundaries
💫 Past coffee experience highly encouraged, but we will train anyone with the aptitude + attitude to learn a new technical skill
💫 Fun, personal, team player, dependable
If you're interested in being considered for the mentor barista position, or would like to receive more information about the program, fill out this short form. We'll be in touch soon!
