If you are a Coffee Geek with a contagious passion for learning, iteration, and remarkable care, then the Lead Educator position is it!
The Lead Educator role exists to create and execute remarkable educational experiences for SCC Baristas, SCC Partners, and Customers. From the interaction with the barista, to the beverage and environment quality, the main focus of the Lead Educator is to win new fans for Stone Creek Coffee.
Role Aspects
TEACHING CLASSES – The Lead Educator teaches and develops coffee geeks at Stone Creek Coffee and through our wholesale partners and cafe guests through remarkable execution and preparation for all classes. Much of their time will focus on classes for each of these groups. The teaching does not end in the Learning Lab, it extends to any and all of our wholesale partners, spaces, and cafes.
MODELING HOSPITALITY – The Lead Educator teaches and models the ways in which SCC communicates care to its retail customers, specifically through execution of the 6 Steps and the Core Commitments. The Lead Educator maintains an eye on ways to improve the effectiveness of our training and the impact that training has on the customer. This is an important way we set ourselves above the rest. They never stop learning and are always monitoring different ways to care remarkably for those around them in all aspects of their role including but not limited to class execution, cross-team interactions, and company event support.
LEARNING LAB OWNERSHIP – As education continually changes and moves, it is the Lead Educator's responsibility to own the Learning Lab in a preventative and remarkable way. This includes ensuring the space is clean, organized, and well stocked on a daily basis. As part of this work they own the ordering of materials for all classes and ensure that there is backstock and front stock on all merchandise to be sold in classes. This is their homebase and it should be treated as such.
CURRICULUM UPKEEP & EVOLUTION - The coffee industry is ever fluid and changing, and we in response, need to also be prepared for these changes. As new information is learned, the curriculum should reflect these new discoveries. The Lead Educator actively seeks and takes this new information and creates an ever-updating class set that has content that reflects new, factual and engaging information.
COFFEE GEEK CULTURE – As great as the EDU classes at Stone Creek are, they are insufficient in and of themselves to develop world-class baristas. Baristas of that caliber are cultivated through the investment of time and encouragement on the part of the Lead Educator. This investment should have Remarkable Care as the end game, not just great tulips. Selling coffee is what we do, but we are coffee geeks. Everybody at Stone Creek Coffee should love coffee and want to explore it deeper. Possession of contagious passion around coffee will help build a culture of excellence and constant learning. The Lead Educator in particular embodies what it is to be a Coffee Geek conducting themselves according to the Core Commitments of Stone Creek Coffee. In addition, the Lead Educator inspires this culture of high performance to all members of the Stone Creek Coffee community. Passion is caught, not taught.
