People's Parade for Life on Earth - application form for participating groups

Join us for a joyful community parade on Earth Day, April 22, 2023! Let us all come together to celebrate Mother Earth, to celebrate Water which is Life, and to celebrate our beautiful communities and our continued resistance for love, justice, and life on this planet.

Organized by the Grassroots Grandmothers, Ecology Action Centre, School Strike 4 Climate Halifax, iMOVe, and others.

This is an invitation for all to come together and uplift our spirits: a parade of all our relations. Groups are invited to bring their creativity to represent their community in whatever way they are inspired to do so! We envision a crowd of elders and youth, drummers and choirs, drag performers and activists, puppets and costumes representing the more-than-human world. Whether your idea is simple or elaborate, whether you are full of creative ideas or you just want to show up representing yourself, we want you to join us!

Date: Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 (Rain Date: Sunday, April 23rd, 2023) Meeting Time: 1:00pm Parade Start Time: 2:00pm Post-Parade Celebration: 3:00-5:00pm

We will meet at The Wave / Sackville Landing on the waterfront and begin in ceremony with the Mi’kma’ki Water Walkers, who will lead the parade down the waterfront. We will end at Peace & Friendship Park for a community gathering and celebration.

Groups are encouraged to enter a "float" in the parade, and/or host an activity in the post-parade celebration gathering. Individual people may also join the parade - you don't need to be part of a group.

We have limited funds available to help support participating groups, with micro-grants of up to $200 for materials costs, and up to $100 for transportation costs for groups from outside the city. Groups will need to cover their initial costs and will be reimbursed. Priority for these funds will be given to Mi’kmaq, African Nova Scotian, and other BIPOC groups, LGBTQ+ groups, and to grassroots groups who do not have access to other sources of funding such as organizational budgets.

Please fill in the form below to apply to be part of the People's Parade, and/or the end-of-parade celebration!

If you would rather give us a call on the phone, set up a zoom, send a video, or share your ideas by email, that works too! Please reach out if you are interested in joining the parade.

Applications will be accepted until Sunday, April 16th. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Applications will be approved on a rolling basis.

We can also accept submissions over the phone or zoom, or in video format, if that works better for you.

Contact Joanna Bull at joanna@ecologyaction.ca or 902-412-9055 if you have any questions, if you'd like to submit your ideas in another format, or if you'd just like to talk about your idea before sending it in.
