Survey to Assess Quintown Area Need for an Adult Day Center
The establishment of a local Adult Day Center (ADC) in the former Rochester High School (RHS) building is part of a 5-component multi-facility proposal for repurposing the building that is currently undergoing a feasibility study by Fairweather Consultants. The proposal additionally includes an Arts and Learning Center, Makerspace, Childcare Center, and Business office spaces.
Adult Day Centers are an identified regional need, intensified during the pandemic and amplified by demographic information. ADCs support the health, nutritional, and social needs of older vulnerable adults in a group setting, by professionally certified staff. During the pandemic most ADCs closed; many closed permanently. The Gifford Medical Center (GMC) ADC, located in Bethel, temporarily closed during the pandemic. Since its reopening under pandemic protocols it serves half of its usual capacity and maintains a waitlist. Transportation to Bethel can be challenging for many Quintown area residents, many of whom would benefit from access to an ADC located in the Quintown area.
The benefit of locating an ADC under the same roof as an Art and Learning Center and Makerspace is a unique feature to this project. Music, performance, and movement are effectively utilized in therapies to benefit people with cognitive impairment and physical disabilities. Access to adult education classes and workshop space would benefit a broad range of older adults, including primary caregivers of care recipients participating in Adult Day while the caregiver pursues their own interests in the same facility.
We are exploring potential partnerships with existing licensed providers, and the possibility offering onsite LNA certification training. This survey will provide valuable information regarding the feasibility of a Quintown Adult Day Center located in the former Rochester High School building.
The first part of the survey is directed to potential Adult Day participants, the second part to adults interested in daytime educational opportunities and arts programming, and the last section is directed to primary caregivers of vulnerable adults.
Thank you for participating. From the Rochester High School Repurposing Committee
This survey will close on March 15th.
