日本燃焼学会では，若手研究者，学生の交流を通して研究テーマやキャリアパス等の情報交換を促進し，更に次代を担う研究者層の充実を図りたいと考えております。本活動の一環として第57回燃焼シンポジウム（札幌）にて若手ワークショップおよび若手懇親会を開催いたします。皆様のご参加を心からお待ちしております。

タイトル：基礎研究から生まれるもの－乱流燃焼研究へのこだわり―
概要：乱流燃焼無くして我々は高密度なエネルギーを得ることは難しい．世界初の直接数値計算の実施から最新の複合レーザ計測まで，物理現象を正確に理解することにこだわった乱流燃焼研究の変遷をいくつかのエピソードとともに紹介する．また，こだわりも持って行った基礎研究が思わぬ応用に発展したり，実は実機の現象解明やモデリングに直接役立てられたりすること，さらに基礎研究で世界と競い合うことで生まれた分野を超えた国内外のネットワークの大切さについても紹介する．

タイトル：燃焼科学への紹介 NASAの’’Vomit Comet’’から’’Dragon’’まで
概要：燃焼分野で研究をしていると信じられないような出来事を経験することが出来る。私自身は博士論文では無重力における液滴燃焼研究のため、NASAの’’Vomit Comet’での実験から始まり、消火研究への応用を目指した高温表面と液滴との衝突のイメージ化、TEMを用いたすすのナノ構造の研究のためリアクターを利用した実験、日本での大規模な火災風洞で利用している火の粉発生装置（Dragon）の開発実験など、幸運なことにこれまで1000回以上の実験を行ってきた。基礎燃焼の研究をすることでどのように世界中の人々に影響を及ぼすことが出来るのかを紹介する。また、国際燃焼学会や、日本燃焼学会、国際火災学会、FORUM（国際火災研究機関協会）ISO TC92(火災安全)などでの活動に関しても紹介する。Full-abstract is here with beautiful images :

Title: An Introduction to Combustion Science: From Floating in NASA’s Vomit Comet to Taming Dragon’s
Abstract: A career in combustion science offers the opportunity to experience many seemingly unbelievable events! I am fortunate to have conducted 1000’s of experiments during my career as an experimentalist, from floating onboard NASA’s Vomit Comet as part of my PhD thesis on microgravity droplet combustion, imaging the collision dynamics of droplets interacting with high temperature surfaces for fire suppression applications, building combustion reactors to image soot nanostructure using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), to inventing firebrand generators (called Dragon’s) housed in large wind tunnels in Japan. This presentation will highlight how a career in fundamental combustion science has the potential to impact millions of lives all over the world. Some examples of important activities conducted for the Combustion Institute, the Combustion Society of Japan, the International Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS), the International FORUM of Fire Research Directors, Interflam, ISO TC92 (Fire Safety), the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), and Springer Nature will be presented.
