Congratulations on making this decision to apply for the Art Start Creative Industries Apprenticeship and pursue a successful career in the creative industries. Applications are being accepted through June 15th, with interviews taking place in June and decisions being made by late July for an August start date. Applicants should be aware that if selected, they must be available to begin working full-time, 40 hours per week, in mid-August, 2024 for 12 full months. If successful in completing the apprenticeship year, a permanent position is likely to be offered by Phillips.
The Art Start Creative Industries Apprenticeship at Phillips is designed to provide hands-on work experience leading to professional and skilled employment. As an apprentice in this program, you will be immersed in the fine arts world, spanning from: auction house operations, sales, museum studies, 20th and 21st Century art, networking and client engagement, personal art creation, learning how to handle high-value pieces of art, visiting museums and other art-related environments, and attending auction and art sales, all through your on-site apprenticeship at Phillips, an international fine arts auction house in Manhattan. You will also gain access to educational and professional support at Art Start that is designed to make you as successful as possible in this program, while ensuring you have the invested support you may need to navigate new terrains.
The apprenticeship is paid at $15/hr for the first 6 months and is then increased to $16/hour for the remainder of the year. Upon successful completion and graduation of the apprenticeship, Phillips is positioned to make a full time offer of employment.
The apprenticeship is Monday-Friday during regular business hours, and takes place at Phillips' main auction house location three days per week, Phillips warehouse one day per week, and Art Start Studios in West Chelsea one day per week.
Art Start and Phillips are looking for committed candidates who are focused on a career in art-related environments.
The Art Start/Phillips apprenticeship is certified by the New York State Department of Labor, qualifying it as a trade-focused training program. Your commitment to the apprenticeship is expected for one year, and your interest in full-time employment after the apprenticeship is assumed, either at Phillips or another art-environment where you will be qualified to apply. Serious candidates only.
If you require assistance in completing this application, please email Danny Arenas, Art Start's Director of Programs, at danny@art-start.org to request a work session.
