Bio of Lecturers
Nicholas Ng Hak Hong (Malaysia) is a graphic designer, art practitioner and a university instructor in Bangkok, Thailand. He graduated from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi holding a BFA and MFA in communication design. Nicholas dedicates most of his time in training students in graphic designs as well as process in creating conceptual artworks. He enjoys a good chat about ideas, and artistic expression with students and fellow practitioners whenever possible. He also works with graphic works for various clients locally and internationally.

Elissa Ecker (USA) is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and lecturer based in Bangkok, Thailand. She holds a BFA in painting from the Peck School of the Arts at The University of Milwaukee and an MFA in Art Practice from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Elissa’s project based art and design practice spans time-based media, net-art experiments and installation art. As a founding member of LIV_ID art collective she also co-curates projects beyond typical art world boundaries with exhibitions ranging from mobile video art in tuk-tuks to large scale public pavilions for the Bangkok Biennale. Additionally, LIV_ID has partnered with the French Embassy for the past three years to create imaginative programming for the annual Galleries Night in Bangkok.

Short Description :
In this 1.5 day workshop students will gain an understanding of best practices in building a portfolio to apply to various design programs. Through design briefs, discussions, short lectures and role-playing exercises students will gain confidence to build a personalized portfolio that can kick start a conversation. Together we will learn to edit existing work, evaluate work to be developed and give recommendations for projects to include in an application and portfolio. Students will gain an understanding of how to best represent their own strengths and processes in this hands on workshop. Let’s BUILD THAT PORTFOLIO.

Schedule:
DAY 1: 27 Nov 2020
3:30 pm - 5:30 pm via ZOOM
During this short 2 hour online session we will introduce resources and the basics of portfolio creation. At the end of the session you will be given a design brief challenge to finish before meeting on Saturday morning!

DAY 2: 28 Nov 2020
9:30 am - 4:00 pm @KX building
During this intensive morning session we will evaluate the work completed from day one and open a dialogue about creating new work to include in a successful portfolio. During the afternoon session we will continue building critical thinking and critiquing methods to prepare a portfolio as well as practice techniques to discuss your portfolio. We will end the session with practical knowledge about how to compile a digital and physical portfolio as well as time for 1:1 feedback and questions.
