Introduction: Now that all the excitement and celebration of Christmas is over we enter a period, or season, in our church called "Ordinary Time". The season of Ordinary Time is divided into two periods, with the first falling between the end of the Christmas season and the start of Lent, and the second period between Pentecost and the start of Advent. But I will have you know that "Ordinary Time" is anything but ordinary. Ordinary Time is actually an extraordinary time to learn about and follow the teachings of Christ. During Ordinary time our priests will return to wearing green vestments and there will be green adornments in the church. Remembering that the color for Ordinary Time is green will help us to remember that "green is for the growing time." And that is exactly what we do in ordinary time. We grow in our knowledge of Jesus. During this time we learn the lessons that Jesus wants to teach us about how to live our lives through the Scripture readings at Mass. We hear Jesus' parables (a story used to illustrate a moral lesson) and we learn about the miracles he performed. So I want you to take time during the "extraordinary" liturgical season of Ordinary Time to reflect on and celebrate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, and learn and live out the meaning of living as his disciples. Just as Andrew, Simon and Samuel did in our lessons this week.
