The COVID-19 pandemic forced many individuals to work from home or families to provide home-schooling opportunities for their children. For those families or individuals who lack the resources to purchase a computer, this puts them at a significant disadvantage. The Sunshine Coast Computer Kindness program was created to help acquire, rebuild and then place functional, used computers and devices into the hands of those most in need.
If you have an computer, device, or peripherals (monitors, keyboards, mice, etc) you would like to donate to this program to be refurbished and provided to a family or individual in need, please complete the form below and we will respond as soon as possible to let you know if your donation can be accepted.
We have also partnered with the Sunshine Coast Resource Centre to provide the "Computer Kindness Corner", where devices can be donated or picked up by those in need at their Sechelt location. To bring a device to them, please connect with them directly via their website.
We cannot accept dead, non-functioning computers, or computers with significant damage (ie cracked screens). Computers must be able to turn on. Ideally they will have been erased/factory reset. If they have not been erased/reset, we will do so to strict data erasure standards, and your data will be permanently erased and unrecoverable. Please ensure you have backed up any data you might need before donating! If you need help with making a copy of your data before donation, please contact a computer service provider to do so.
If you are donating a laptop, you MUST include the AC power adapter with it.
In select circumstances, we will accept phones or tablets ONLY under the condition that they have been factory restored, and are no longer tied to an Apple ID or Google Account. If you need help with this, please contact a computer service provider.
Please note we do not accept printers or random cables/e-waste. Please find alternate means to dispose of them. The
Gibsons Recycling Depot accepts e-waste.
Please understand that we are a volunteer run program, and our volunteers are using their precious time to gather, refurbish, and donate devices. These rules are in place to prevent their time and resources from being wasted on unusable devices or people offloading their junk on us.
Thank you for your donation!
