This self-study option provides you with materials to learn about data management and analytical skills for genomic research. All of the educational materials are available online and you are able to work through them at your own pace. Please see below for the recommended learning path to complete the Genomics self-study educational materials.

Step 1 - Complete the Create your own Instance module
A 2 hour self-study module to teach you how to create and manage your own Cloud-SPAN Amazon Web Services (AWS) instance, it is necessary to complete this if would like to complete the Prenomics and/or Genomics materials.

Step 2 - Complete the Prenomics module
If you are new to the realm of navigating file systems and using the command line we recommend you complete these materials. Take our quiz to help you decide if you would benefit from completing the Prenomics module before the beginning the Genomics module https://shiny.york.ac.uk/er13/prenomics-quiz/ If you feel you have the correct level of experience you may choose to skip Prenomics and complete the Genomics materials.

Step 3 - Complete the Genomics module
The Genomics course allows you to move on to the more fun stuff as you develop your skills in managing data. You will tackle tasks such as assessing read quality, trimming and filtering, and variant calling.

Step 4 - Complete the Metagenomics module
This course teaches data analysis for metagenomics projects. It covers how to generate and QC a metagenome assembly, ‘bin’ the assembly into metagenome assembled genomes (MAGs) also known as bins and identify the taxonomy of these MAGs.
