Call for Papers:

This annually held Rural Geography Research Group session looks to explore new and emerging ideas across rural geography by discussing the work of postgraduate and early career researchers. The past year has seen a shift in the context surrounding rural areas and as a result of our research themes; rural areas are reacting to national and international context change but change is also enacted from within rural areas. We hope that this session will encourage lively discussion of contemporary key debates within rural geography, conversation on reaction or adaptation to a time of poly-crisis, innovative ways of approaching rural research, conversations around the issues which may present themselves in rural scholarship over the coming years. The session provides a friendly and encouraging forum in which researchers can present their research ideas and results, and discuss these in a constructive manner with all those attending.

Format:

This will be an hybrid session for presenters and attendees, we highly recommend presenters to attend in person to practice their in-person presentation skills.

The session will be using 2 time slots of 1h40. We hope to host approximately 8-10 presentations from emerging researchers, if possible based on discussion papers in order to help researchers to shape their research but we will also welcome presentations on their own. We are pre-emptively gauging interest for poster only submissions.

Papers will be grouped thematically during the session. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to present its work. At the end of the theme, there will be a dedicated time for question, with approximately 5 minutes per presenter. We aim at holding a short 10 min discussion/conclusion at the end of the two time slots to conclude the session.

Submission will ask for an extended abstract submitted in a google form, again helping emerging researchers to organise their research.

Note that we will ask for discussion papers to be sent to the organisers approximately 2 weeks before the session, more information will be sent closer to the date.
