Harae Mai! To the City of Sails!
YWAM Auckland Te Ao Marama is located in south Auckland; just 12 minutes (by car) from the airport and 25 minutes (by car) from the City Center. Auckland is a very diverse and multicultural city, while also being the home to the largest Polynesian population in the world. Having two major harbors surrounding the city, it is properly named the City of Sails. The landscape is surrounded by many bodies of water, includes many extinct volcanoes, and lives up to the name, Aotearoa (Maori name for New Zealand meaning land of the long white cloud), with its beautiful display of various clouds every day.
There are many different things to do in the Auckland area:
Beaches/ Waterfronts: Mission Bay, Long Bay, Piha, Eastern Beach, Bucklands Beach, Takapuna Beach, Mangere Bridge, Manukau Heads Lighthouse
Hiking: Mangere Mountain, Mt. Eden, Waitakere Ranges
Shopping: Auckland City Central, Sylvia Park, Westfield (Manukau). Daily Night Markets (Locations vary)
Public transportation is available, including the bus, train and ferry.
The weather is very unpredictable, as it can change during the course of the day. During our autumn (March~May) and winter (June~Aug) season the average high temperature is 17 C (63 F) and the average low is 11 C (51 C). During our spring (Sept~ Nov) and summer (Dec~Feb) seasons, the average high is 20 C (68 F) and the average low is 14 C (57 C).
