Hello Cavaliers!
We are so very excited for next school year!
As an eighth grade student, you will be placed in the following courses:
English 8
World History and Geography 8
Science 8
Math for eighth graders is determined by a variety of factors. The majority of 8th grade students will be enrolled in Pre-Algebra and students that were successful in Pre-Algebra 7 will take Algebra I for high school credit.
Eighth graders rotate through four electives each lasting for an average of 18 weeks. (Pre-Covid - two per day for a semester, during the 20-21 school year we completed these one at a time for 9 weeks of intensive focus) Students will have the option on this form to select their top three choices as PE is a requirement and two alternates. These choices include:
Art
Music
Career Explorations
Agriculture
Keyboarding
Library Research
**PE (18 weeks total) - required course
Eighth grade students also have the option to take Band as a year-long course. Band takes the place of 2 electives listed above. Students that participated in band as a seventh grader are eligible to take it as an eighth grader.
Students that excel in Language Arts may be considered to take a high school credit foreign language class as an eighth grader. Spanish and French are available during the spring semester. If your student would like to be considered, please indicate that on the form below.
If possible next school year, we plan to offer both a Reading and a Math Lab for students that have struggled in these areas. There is a place on this registration form to indicate if you would like your student to be evaluated for these programs. Students that have expressed an interest and meet the criteria will be enrolled.
If at any point completing the form a section does not apply to your family - please place NA in the box and move onto the next section.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to complete this registration! We will be in touch over the summer through parental emails as more information about next school year becomes available.
