2021 Game Developer electricity usage survey
The goal of this survey is to collect data from game developers about the amount of electricity they used last year, in order to better understand the energy and emissions demands of modern game making.

To do this, the survey will ask you to add up the amounts shown on your electricity bills in 2021 (or as many as you can access). If you only have access to one or a few that is still helpful, but a full picture of the entire year's worth of electricity used will provide the greatest accuracy and clearest picture.

Who is doing the research?
My name is Dr Benjamin Abraham and I am an independent researcher, I publish a newsletter called Greening the Games Industry and wrote the book "Digital Games After Climate Change".
What is this research about?
This research is being conducted to find out about the energy use and CO2 emissions of digital game production both in individual workplaces and across the whole sector.
Why have I been asked?
You have been invited to participate in this survey because you work at a videogame development studio. If you do not work at a videogame development studio, please do not continue the survey.
If I say yes, what will it involve?
If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a short online survey that may take between 5 and 10 minutes to complete, providing information about:

the size and location of your studio or workplace
the amount of electricity used by your studio in 2021 (or in a given period)
if known, the CO2 emissions from that amount of electricity (these are often listed on electricity bills)

The data you share may be used in written publications about the estimates of the size and nature of the games industry's carbon footprint and to inform policy proposals to address them.
Do I have to say yes?
Participation in this study is completely voluntary. It is completely up to you whether or not you decide to take part.
