Increasing data allowances on mobile devices to support disadvantaged children
The information below is a repeat of that in the letter from 06/01/21. If you have read that letter you may scroll to the bottom of the page an click NEXT to begin the form. If you have not read that letter please read on to find out your eligibility for this scheme and what information we will require.

The DfE is currently running a scheme to increase data allowances for mobile phone users on certain networks. This is so that children and young people can access remote education whilst face-to-face education is disrupted.

Who Can Get Help?
We can request data allowance increases if you meet the following criteria:
You do not have a fixed broadband connection at home
You cannot afford to purchase additional data for your device
You have access to a device that uses a participating network:
o Three – Pay Monthly or PAYG
o Smarty – Pay Monthly or PAYG
o Virgin Mobile – Pay Monthly ONLY
o EE – Pay Monthly or PAYG
o Tesco Mobile – Pay Monthly ONLY
o Sky Mobile – Pay Monthly ONLY
If you are not on one of these networks, please provide your details anyway and we will apply for a data increase if/when your network has an offer available

What will you receive?
The data increase you will receive, along with how long the increase will last, will depend on your network provider. Details can be found in this form when you select your provider.

Applying for a data increase
If you think your child would benefit from a data increase you will need to fill out the form online at the following address

This form will ask for:
The mobile account holder’s name
The mobile number associated (a number beginning with ‘07’)
The mobile network
Whether you pay monthly or pay as you go
We will then submit this data through the government’s online portal. Once the data is submitted, the time to increase your data allowance will differ depending on your network, with most aiming to process the request within 14 days. When the processing is complete you will receive a text message informing you that your data increase has been applied.

Privacy Statement
If you want to sign up for the increased data allowance you need to understand how the DfE will use your personal information.
1. For the purposes of data protection, I need to let you know that the Department for Education (DfE) is running the Mobile Network Offer through schools and their trusts or local authorities.
2. If the offer is taken up by an adult account holder, the school or social care team will share the account holder’s name and mobile phone details with the DfE, who will share these with the relevant mobile network operator.
3. The mobile network operator will use that information to increase the data available for the account holder’s mobile device, as long as they qualify for the offer.
4. The adult account holder’s personal data is only shared with their mobile network operator for the purposes of the offer. No names of children or other adults, other than adult account holder, are shared with the DfE or the mobile network operator.
5. No personal information will be shared with the DfE if you do not want to take up the offer.
6. If you want to know more about how your personal information will be used before you take up the offer, we can send that to you first.
7. If you decide to take up the offer, you’ll get a text message from the Department for Education with more information about your data protection rights.
