REGISTRATION: Black Pine Lake Overnighter
With the support of Bikepacking Roots and Cascade Endurance, Methow Cycle & Sport is excited to present the second overnighter trip in our Intro to Bikepacking series to Black Pine Lake. This is the perfect next step for beginner bikepackers who want to keep building their confidence, or for the experienced bikepacker to get out for a quick weekend outing. Open to ALL levels and beginners welcome! We’ll spend the day pedaling up to the lake where you can jump in for a swim and relax after some hard earned miles. And if you’ve still got gas in the tank, there's an optional extension to continue riding up to the top of Buttermilk Butte.

You can find all our events on Methow Cycle & Sport's Events Page.

Details:
PRE-TRIP MEETING: Monday, May 13th, 6-7pm at Methow Cycle & Sport. The pre-trip meeting will be a great time to ask packing questions, go over logistics, and sign our liability waiver. If desired, you can bring your bike, bags, and gear so we can help you pack your bike after the main meeting.

THE RIDE: Saturday - Sunday, May 18-19. We'll meet at Methow Cycle & Sport at 10am on Saturday, May 18th (anyone that still needs to sign our liability waiver can do so that morning). We'll ride to Black Pine Lake via Elbow Coulee and East Buttermilk Creek Rd. We'll return via Poorman Creek and Frost Rd, although folks may opt for a quicker return via East County Rd or a more burly return via Thompson Ridge Rd. You can always meet up with the group closer to the lake (like the bottom of Buttermilk) if you'd like to shorten the mileage! Ride With GPS page with links to all route options and gpx files.

WHO: This ride is designed as the second step in our progressive Intro to Bikepacking series. That means this is a great route for beginners, intermediate bikepackers, and advanced riders looking for a weekend getaway! This ride will be a great opportunity to meet potential bikepacking partners and enjoy the springtime in the amazing Methow Valley!! *Participants under 18 are invited to join if accompanied by a parent or guardian.*

WHAT TO BRING: Riders will need to carry all of their own gear for spending a night out. This includes clothing, shelter, sleeping bag, food and cooking setup, repair supplies, and first aid supplies. You'll also need a bear-wise food and smellables storage strategy (Ursack, bear canister, or a food-hanging setup). We are camping at a Forest Service campground that has pit toilets, picnic tables, and water spigots, although I've heard reports that the water tastes pretty chemically and some prefer to filter or treat water from the lake directly. It's also possible that the spigots will not be turned on for the season yet. Remember: there are many ways to get creative with packing gear on a bike using what you already have. Methow Cycle & Sport also has a variety of bags in the store and/or available to order. Also, we may be able to help you find gear and bags to borrow. Pack what you can on your bike, and you can always carry the rest in a small backpack. Check out our packing lists here.
