Calicho Arevalo limited edition NYGL discs order form

New York Gridlock Ultimate is excited to announce that we partnered with Calicho Arevalo to raise funds to support NYGL athletes.

Calicho Arevalo is an internationally acclaimed artist based in NYC, celebrated for his vibrant large-scale paintings, murals, sculptures, and digital art. Born in Bogota, Colombia, he seamlessly integrates four essential elements into his creations: three-line stripes, wildlife, doodles, and portals.

Infusing his native culture into his work, Calicho draws inspiration primarily from New York City, which serves as his greatest muse and ignited his journey as an artist. The three stripes symbolize his Colombian heritage, reminiscent of the Colombian flag. Wildlife references in his art evoke a profound connection to the symbolism of animals, reflecting the deep emotional bonds people share with these creatures. His daring use of dark portals symbolizes the passage of time and space, embodying the resilience required to endure hardships and emerge stronger.  Doodles within his artwork represent diversity, simplicity, and freedom.

Calicho is friends with Gridlock co-captain, Yina Cartegena.  He knows the challenges many players face, balancing their finances, training and building their personal brands as pro ultimate athletes.

We have 2 designs in this series. One that represent NYGL's colors and the other that is a combination of NYGL  + the Colombian flag.  There are only 50 of each design.  Each order is limited to 4 discs and only 2 of each design.

The discs are for sale on a sliding scale, with 3 options;

Solidarity rate $35

We encourage you to take both income and wealth into consideration, when choosing the rate that is right for you. Though one’s wealth status is the most important when determining a sliding scale rate.

Income is what you make (usually monthly) from a job, disability, social security, etc. Wealth is the personal property (homes, cars) + savings + income generating assets (real estate, investments) minus liabilities (debts, loans) within your network and/or family. Additionally, we encourage you to take your relative racial privilege and/or marginalization into account when choosing your rate.

The questionnaire below is inspired by Resource Generation’s “Class Privilege Quiz” and is designed to help you determine which rate to pay.

STEP 1: ASK YOURSELF...
Are you and your family homeowners or landowners? Have you attended private education institutions or do you have an advanced degree?
Are your bills or credit cards on auto-pay?
Have you not had difficulty accessing and affording healthcare or health insurance for you or your family members?
Do you have zero to little debt and/or do you have disposable income?
Do you have a safety net composed of “financially stable” or wealthy family and friends?
Do you have U.S. Citizenship?

STEP 2: IF YOUR ANSWERS WERE...

Mostly Yes

You should consider the REDISTRIBUTION RATE/$60

The Redistribution rate means ‘paying your fair share’ for individuals who have had structural advantage and access to wealth. This rate helps to offset for individuals who pay the Solidarity Rate.

Some Yes, Some No

You should consider the FULL RATE/$50

This rate represents the ‘true cost’ at which we would break even after paying our expenses.

Mostly No

You should consider the SOLIDARITY RATE/$35

This rate is an attempt to be in solidarity with individuals who are surviving.
