DeepFakes pose an increasing risk to democratic societies as they threaten to undermine the credibility of audiovisual material as evidence of real-world events. The technological field of DeepFakes is highly evolving with new generation methods constantly improving the quality, convincingness and ease of generation of synthetic content, and new detection methods aiming at detecting as many as possible cases of synthetic content generation and manipulation.

This webinar will try to give a short overview of the technology behind DeepFake content generation and detection, and will then present our experience with developing, evaluating and deploying a DeepFake detection service in the WeVerify project (https://weverify.eu/), and our ongoing plans in the AI4Media project (https://www.ai4media.eu/). We will then provide a hands-on demonstration session, where we will test the service with some real-world cases of DeepFake content.

The webinar will be given by Dr. Symeon Papadopoulos and Dr. Nikos Sarris, both working as senior researchers in the Media Verification team of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). The tutorial will last up to 90 mins, including introductory presentation, hands-on demonstration and a question-answering session. It is supported by an award from the U.S.-Paris Tech Challenge.

We welcome all stakeholders involved in disinformation detection, analysis, and debunking activities, including but not limited to fact-checkers, journalists, OSINT investigators, NGOs investigating disinformation and human rights, government organisations, journalism students, etc.

Registration closes on Dec 15th at 17:00 CET/15:00 GMT.
