FREE Mask Making, Mask Acting & Performance Drop-in Classes
An intergenerational project for young people (18+) and elders (60+)—all are welcome if you’re 18+!
From 1 May to 21 June 2025 @ Tooting Works
Over 8 weeks, Dendê Collective will host open workshops where you can:
✅ Create your own professional-quality papier-mâché mask – FREE!
✅ Design your costume and bring your masked character to life
✅ Learn mask acting techniques and explore movement & storytelling
✅ Take part in a public walkabout performance across Tooting Broadway, followed by a celebration!
No experience needed. All materials provided. Completely Free.
DATES & TIMES
Workshops: Thursdays & Fridays | From 1 May to 20 June 2025 | 1:00 – 5:00 PM
Main Stages:
- Mask Making (Weeks 1–6): Thurs & Fri, from 1 May to 6 June (3–5 sessions to complete your mask)
- Costume Design & Mask Acting (Weeks 7–8): Thurs & Fri, from 12 to 20 June
- Walkabout Performance: Saturday, Sat 21 June 2025

ABOUT DENDÊ COLLECTIVE:
Dendê Collective is a vibrant, community-driven theatre company with a strong Brazilian flavour. Since 2000, we have been creating projects that blend visual arts, music, and performance, celebrating diversity and fostering intergenerational connections.
Our Drama for Elders program, running since 2017 in Westminster, has been a hub of creativity and community, while our mask-making projects have connected residents across London through performance, and celebration.
Meet the Artists:
André Pink — Artistic Director of Dendê Collective, Mask Specialist & Theatre Director.
André began working with masks in his native Brazil in the 1990s and has taught mask acting internationally since 2000. He has directed all Dendê Collective projects to date, championing community engagement and cultural celebration.
Caroline Jones — Theatre Designer & Maker.
Caroline has worked extensively in Australia and the UK, bringing her expertise in theatre design and community-led creative projects. Her mask-making workshops blend craft with storytelling, creating powerful, visually dynamic pieces.
